  • You are about to embark on a whistle-stop tour of the book of Isaiah. Like a sight-seeing excursion around a major city, this guide will give you a good idea of the general layout. We’ll take in some of the familiar landmarks (like the prophecies of Christ associated with Christmas) and the most popular tourist attractions (like Isaiah 53). We’ll also learn about a few less celebrated areas of the prophecy. While this tour will encourage you to go back at a later date to explore some of the places of interest in more detail, there is much to learn even from a relatively brief survey. Isaiah isn’t interested in giving you a history lesson: he wants you to be awed by the holiness and justice of God, and to grasp something of the power and plan of God. He wants you to see the glory of God and to anticipate his final salvation. Most of all, he wants you to trust God. His aim is not just to inform, but to inspire. And what better way to do that than to repeatedly direct our thoughts to the coming Deliverer?
